Marine Solar Trees along a luxury waterfront development

ESG & Developments

An asset on the balance sheet, not just the promenade.

Waterfront developers and marina operators are judged on evidence now, by investors, insurers, certification bodies and municipalities. Marine Solar Trees turn a sustainability obligation into something you can point at.

The proposition

Offset that shows, and that an auditor can verify.

Most environmental measures at a waterfront are invisible: better pump-out, cleaner fuel handling, a policy in a binder. They are real, but they photograph badly and they are hard to evidence at audit.

On-site generation is the opposite. Every kilowatt hour is metered, timestamped and independently verifiable, a continuous record that speaks directly to ESG reporting and to the criteria behind Blue Flag, Clean Marina, ISO 14001, BREEAM and LEED. And it stands in full view of every berth, restaurant table and arriving vessel.

Marine Solar Trees in a new marina development

01

New developments

Designed into the masterplan, an orchard delivers renewable capacity, shade and public amenity from day one, a sustainability story that is built in, not bolted on. It contributes directly to BREEAM, LEED and marina certification targets while the rest of the scheme is still being sold.

Renovations & retrofit

Modular anchoring means an existing waterfront can be upgraded without trenching, dredging or closing the marina. A tired promenade gains generation, shade and a visible environmental credential in a single, reversible intervention, the fastest way to move a legacy asset up the ESG ladder.

Impact, per twelve-tree orchard

74.8 MWh of clean energy, every year, on your own quay.

Enough to carry a marina’s night-time lighting, run its electric tenders, and offset a measurable share of its operational carbon, generated without a plant room, a fuel store or a fenced compound. The figure is modelled on United Arab Emirates irradiance; a site-specific study is part of every proposal.

Marine Solar Trees as a reportable asset

How do Marine Solar Trees support an ESG report?

They generate on site, and generation is measurable. Each tree reports what it produced and what was consumed, so the offset is a number an auditor can check rather than an intention in a brochure.

Which certifications does this help with?

On-site renewable generation is evidence for Blue Flag, Clean Marina and ISO 14001, and it contributes to BREEAM, LEED and GRESB assessments for the wider development.

Where does the energy figure come from?

From a modelled twelve-tree orchard under United Arab Emirates irradiance: 38.7 kWp installed, 74.8 MWh generated per year. Every tree reports its own generation and consumption, so the modelled figure can be held against the measured one once the orchard is standing.

Does this suit a renovation as well as a new development?

Both. Because nothing is trenched or dredged, an orchard can be added to a working marina without rebuilding the quay, which is usually what rules out other renewable options on an existing site.

What is the return over time?

A twelve-tree orchard models to roughly AED 337,500 in energy subsidy value across fifteen years, alongside the electricity it displaces and the shade and amenity it adds to the promenade.

Is the visible design part of the argument?

It is the difference. Energy equipment is normally hidden behind a fence. This is drawn with Espen Øino International to be looked at, so the sustainability credential is visible from every berth instead of buried in a report.
